Relaxation Dynamics in the Energy Landscape of Glass-Forming Liquids

چکیده

We numerically study the zero-temperature relaxation dynamics of several glass-forming models to their inherent structures, following quenches from equilibrium configurations sampled across a wide range initial temperatures. In mean-field Mari-Kurchan model, we find that changes power-law an exponential decay below well-defined temperature, consistent with recent findings in $p$-spin models. By contrast, for finite-dimensional systems, is always algebraic, non-trivial universal exponent at high temperatures crossing over harmonic value low demonstrate this apparent evolution controlled by temperature-dependent population localised glassy excitations. Our work unifies lines studies aiming detailed characterisation complex potential energy landscape glass-formers, and challenges both real space descriptions glasses.

Short time dynamics of glass-forming liquids

Calculations have been presented for the intermediate scattering function, dynamic structure factor, and dynamic susceptibility of a complex correlated system undergoing relaxation with independent vibrations. The vibrational contribution was approximated by a Debye spectrum, smoothed at high frequency, while the coupling model was used to describe the relaxation. This model asserts for nonpoly...

Spatial correlations of elementary relaxation events in glass-forming liquids.

The dynamical facilitation scenario, by which localized relaxation events promote nearby relaxation events in an avalanche process, has been suggested as the key mechanism connecting the microscopic and the macroscopic dynamics of structural glasses. Here we investigate the statistical features of this process via numerical simulations of a model structural glass. First we show that the relaxat...

Finite-size effects in the dynamics of glass-forming liquids.

We present a comprehensive theoretical study of finite-size effects in the relaxation dynamics of glass-forming liquids. Our analysis is motivated by recent theoretical progress regarding the understanding of relevant correlation length scales in liquids approaching the glass transition. We obtain predictions both from general theoretical arguments and from a variety of specific perspectives: m...

Theory for the reorientational dynamics in glass-forming liquids

The mode-coupling theory for ideal liquid-glass transitions is extended so that the structural relaxation for the reorientational degrees of freedom of a linear molecule, which is immersed in a system of spherical particles, can be described. Closed equations of motion for the correlation functions formed with tensor density fluctuations are derived, which deal with the molecule’s translational...

Free Energy Landscape Of Simple Liquids Near The Glass Transition

Properties of the free energy landscape in phase space of a dense hard sphere system characterized by a discretized free energy functional of the Ramakrishnan-Yussouff form are investigated numerically. A considerable number of glassy local minima of the free energy are located and the distribution of an appropriately defined “overlap” between minima is calculated. The process of transition fro...
